I want to thank the author who was kind enough to provide me with a copy of this book to read and review. After reading the synposis I didn't really think it was something I would enjoy. Wrong!
Very well written with a story that moved foward at a good pace that kept my attention. Loréal Ingram is a domestic abuse counselor who life is in financial turmoil. She is torn between her love for her job of helping people to a higher paid postion as manager of her sister's restaurants. As Loreal deals with the dark side of people, her own dark side surfaces....then the actions begins.
The story is a good mix of paranormal, written in a believable way, action, romance and suspense. We learn a lot more about the "dark side" as Loreal goes to the "mall" to try to find information on what is happening to her and why.
All in all, I think even if paranormal isn't your usual kind of read this would be a fun escape for a couple hours. Ms. Colette make it a fun and quick read that that I throughly enjoyed.
Having read Marcia Collettes work before, I am aware of her abundance of energy, ideas and creativity. She likes to reach beyond the edges and wander off the trail. It makes for an interesting new breed of para sub-genre. This book again holds the core essence of abuse in it's centre, but a little more hardcore. The main character is an abuse survivor, who runs a shelter for victims of domestic violence. Importantly the writer includes both genders, the male victims are rarely focused on. She discovers that she harbours something inside her, a spider, who lives a Jekyl/Hyde existence with her. The concept is a psychologically interesting one depending on which way you perceive it. The supernatural angle creates a creature/monster within her that is controlled via someone else. The psychological angle makes the reader wonder if this is the main characters damaged past returning in form of anger, which means her acts are conscious and clear ones. Fascinating idea. However I do think in between the rush of creativity the storyline and dialogue could be more in depth. I recived a free copy of this book for my review.
The Spider Inside Her is a good book. It has a unique story line that you don't see very often and the heroine is a likeable character. You can't help but feel sorry for her and hope that everything works out for her in the end.
When it first starts up, it is kinda here and there. I had a hard time following it at times because it seemed she flip flopped around. Some of the characters that she talks about throughout the book, I still don't actually know who they are. And she seemed to get close to ones that were only in her life for like a week.
But I am one of those who once I start reading a book I try to finish it, and I am glad I did. This eventually turned out to be a great read. You just have to be able to look over some misdirection. I also started enjoying the point of view from the spider too. And of course I have to love the fact that she has the setting in Atlanta where I think is a magical place too. Being from GA, whenever we would take a trip to Atlanta, it always seemed like there was more to it than just the big buildings and busy streets.
All in all, I believe Marcia Colette is on her way to many great things!

In this story, we meet Loreal Ingram, who as a young child is spending the summer with her sister at her grandparents. Loreal's grandparents are abusive. After one particular incident, Loreal ends up in the dark woods alone, or so the thought. She is then visited by a dark presence that changes her life forever.
The story line then jumps to when Loreal as an adult who ends up working in an abuse shelter helping those in need. After the death at the shelter, "The Spider Inside Her" is unleashed. Loreal searches for answers and a cure, which introduces her to a completely new world that she doesn't even know exists. Loreal fights for control over the arachnid, but discovers that the arachnid has a mind of its own, and the only way that the arachnid will relinquish control is with the death of a wrongdoer.
I love the concept of this storyline with the arachnid shifter. Very different and unique. The beginning of this story grabbed me, but I got a little bit bored with it about half way to a quarter of the way through the book. The ending was a total surprise though. It did make up for some other things that I did not care for in the storyline with Loreal, in how she was handling the arachnid and the killings. Overall, I did enjoy this book. I came across a few spelling/grammar errors but nothing that took away from the book. I would recommend checking out the other reviews and maybe downloading a sample chapter. I received a copy of this book in exchange for my review.
