Unsure about what is going on, Mika follows the baby into a really bad part of town only to discover powerful elementals abusing their gifts. Upon completion of her current mission, the baby gargoyle indicates that rest of of her nest has also been kidnapped and will be sold to the highest, and meanest, bidders. Mika has no choice but to intervene and hope for the best...The location of the story is pretty ambiguous - it could almost be anywhere. This allows the reader to take what descriptions are given and build their own version of the world Rebecca Chastain has created. Mika is a compassionate soul. She is working hard to complete a job that should catapult her quartz creations to the top of everyone's list of supplier. When a gargoyle in need asks for her help, she stops her current task to come to another baby's aid. Then Mika continues to push aside this monumental career maker or breaker to help rescue the remaining babies.
Magic of the Gargoyles is a such a fantastic book. The plot is unique and exciting. The story line packs such a punch that you can't help but be drawn into and fully engaged in the story. The emotional content is in regards to the plight of the baby gargoyles was palpable. Mika's emotions transfer to the reader.
The author did a wonderful job developing the story in the short urban fantasy novella. I'm looking forward to continuing with the series with book 2, Curse of the Gargoyles.

I really enjoyed this book! While short, it was an interesting world created by Author, Rebecca Chastain. I found this book through book bub and am really glad I decided to grab it. Right now, all three books are in Unlimited so go out and grab them as it will offset the monthly membership fees.
In a book of 91 pages, you don't have time to truly flesh out characters but Ms. Chastain does a great job of getting personality traits across. I immediately loved the heroine and wanted to kill the villain myself. The kooky friend is like someone I know so she was a great addition. I automatically loved and wanted to protect the gargoyles. So, as far as emotional involvement, (a must have for 5 stars) I was hooked immediately and stopped everything I was supposed to do and read the entire book immediately. I am going to read the next two today as well.
I am very enthusiastic in recommending this book to readers young and old alike. There is a good balance of action, adventure, suspense, mystery and mayhem. I thing anyone who reads "Magic of the Gargoyles" will enjoy it and will pick up 2 & 3 as well. Happy reading.

Mika is a mid-level earth elemental it’s how she pays the bills with big plans to become a quartz artisan. She’s been saving ever penny in hopes of opening her own shop and she’s actually getting closer with each project she completes. That is till the night the baby gargoyle burst into the house needing help for her brother. Knowing she had to help but not sure what she could do Mika takes off after the little gargoyle following her into a war zone but together they rescue the little hatchling. Mike does what she can using her magic to heal the little guy but learns that three others may suffer the safe fate. With the help of her bestie they set out to do everything they can to save the little hatchlings even giving up her dream. Will they be able to rescue them or will they get more than they bargained for?
I like Mika a lot she was so willing to risk it all to help the little gargoyle hatchlings. I found her ability to control earth intriguing she quickly captured my heart. I also like her friend Kylie who’s a reporter and air elemental. Together they make an interesting pair of friends and honestly I really like when my characters have friends who support them.
I’ve had this one sitting on my kindle far to long. I haven’t read a lot of gargoyle books in the past so this one was unique and captivating right from the start. I loved that each gargoyle was so different in looks, and that they are hatchlings not created. While the story was short it was well written having all the elements to make it perfect. I enjoyed the authors writing style and loved the story. This is my first book by the author but I can tell already it won’t be my last. I can’t wait to read more of Mika and Kylie’s adventures in future books. I admit that I need a coloring book to go along with the series because I would love to see what the little hatchlings look like. I feel the girls have more gargoyles in their future thanks to Mika’s new gift. Highly recommend a beautiful quick read that was hard to put down and finished in one sitting.
I bought this series on a whim. I was looking for something light and uplifting. This book fit the bill. Personally, right now I am struggling with some rather crippling depression. I read to find escape and relief. Currently, all my favorite books/ series are in a dark place and to my frustration- I just can't handle them right now. I read a review that compared this series to Ann McCafry's Harper Hall of Pern. This book does not have the same depth or complexity of my all time favorite. What it does share is a heroine that has grit, determination, and hope for something better. All things I am in very short supply of. Another disconcerting aspect of my health condition is an inability to concentrate. This book is short-term making it perfect for me. just because a story is not earth staggeringly epic does not mean it does not have important worth. Reading this story helped me to connect with my own determination and hope. It has inspired me to Get Up and get on with my day. If any of you have ever dealt with depression you know what a big deal this is. So, a big thanks to the author, keep doing what you're doing- I'm off to start my day.
